Me: First, tell the readers about yourself.
Foxby: I'm Foxkid, aka Cap'n McAwesomeface. I'm a voraphile who does sexy arts and writing about sessie girlies eating other sessie girlies in various ways. I also play the video games and RP.
Me: ...interesting. How'd you get started in all this?
Foxby: The video games, my brother used to play in front of me, and I was born with my hands around the Sony president's throat screaming "MAKE VIDEO GAMES." As for the voraphilia, it's a long story; basically, my fox obsession turned to an interest in the fact that wolves eat foxes (which in my cartoony mind was eating them whole). I stumbled across deviantART, searched for it (back when the search engine for dA sucked!), and one thing led to another.
Me: When'd you start drawing?
Foxby: My first decent drawing was of Lara, shortly after her creation. My then-girlfriend wanted a ref of her, I think, so I just grabbed an old sketchbook and started drawing. I think I'm lucky that way.
Me: Did you think you'd actually go anywhere in art or did you think it was just a small hobby?
Foxby: I'd always wanted to write, but unfortunately, I'd always tried to write fight scenes. Nobody wants to read a fight scene. I then stumbled across manga and shifted my career goals.
Me: When did the idea for Kiria (for readers: the world his characters live in) come up from?
Foxby: Bits and pieces of Kiria formed every time I made a character-- Vixie's village, Lara's society. Eventually more and more developed as I tried to explain the stupid stuff I did in chat rooms (like the device that could shrink people or change their species). By now, it's just developing every time I decide to focus on a particular place or scenario, or do a Kiria-based roleplay.
Me: Mind describing some of the characters?
Foxby: Sure, sure! I'll go with my centerfolds, then-- Arishika, Lara, and Vixie.
Arishika Nikeji's a rocker catgirl famous across several dimensions. She grew up under the watchful eye of her ridiculously rich (and evil, because you can't have a nice rich guy) father. The father would shrink unruly employees and hide them in Ari's food-- considering Ari tended to swallow sandwiches whole, he was ensuring a slow, painful death for them. In addition to that, Ari also had a tendency to have sleepovers with her classmates-- she'd eat them, too, but was very aware of it. Note that in Kiria, it's possible for someone to eat someone else whole if they're about the same size or smaller, though it depends on the person. It was during her childhood that she ate someone who turned out to be her soul mate, though neither knew at the time. Her heart pulls toward her own stomach now, where Lina (the soul mate) died. So she hops dimensions and sexes up a random person from the audience after each concert. My friend,
Lara, meanwhile, is a lamia (half serpent, half woman). Not a whole lot to say about her; she eats people on a daily basis and doesn't mind, considering it's normal for her species. She lives in the massive, forested, "uncivilized" half of Kiria's main continent. She's also got two kids (Mara and Ayla), who she conceived with the help of James, her fox-hume boyfriend/slave (the babies are both lamiae as well, in case you're wondering).
Vixie, meanwhile, also lives in the forested half, though a safe distance from Lara. She's an ubersubmissive codependent nymphomaniac with an ability to shrink, and lives in a village of other foxgirls (her half-sisters) and deeply in love with Ellen (her taller twin and leader of the village).
Me: How proud would you say you are of your work?
Foxby: Mmm, not too proud. I'm not a proud person. I know a lot of it could use some work (and I should get to writing more than short stories about Kiria), but I'd also like to see a few more watchers... but it can't be helped, I suppose. Well, it can, but I'd have to suddenly attain crazy art skills and motivation overnight.
Me: Have you ever had any help in making the world of Kiria, or is it all you? (XD)
Foxby: I've had tons of help! Most of it in the form of role-playing it, and an occasional discussion with someone who's genuinely interested-- answering their questions helps me cover angles I hadn't thought of, and as it turns out, there are plenty of those. The role-playing also helps improve my writing skills and see my characters interact with more "realistic" characters. Ari's surprised me the most, actually; before, she was just some crazy rocker that sexed up everything in sight. Now, I've noticed she's pretty dang selfish.
Me: Any new stories to be expected?
Foxby: Unfortunately, none at the moment; I'm in a bit of a slump. However, 4ofSwords (who I mentioned earlier) is writing a story featuring Ari, and I've given him permission to have a little fun with it. He's a great writer and a great artist; we'll see how it goes. He mentioned feeding chicken soup to pigs to cure swine flu, however, and I might be making a story about that.
Me: If you could be in Kiria for a day, what would you do?
Foxby: Your m-- er, hmm. I'd probably make sure to have it planned to where Ari would be there; Vixie's terrified of men and Lara would definitely kill me (and might beat the crap out of me before she did). Otherwise, I'd probably just walk around Kiriopolis and see what kind of stuff they've got. Definitely stop by a Kirian bakery, though!
Me: What character would you say is most like yourself?
Foxby: Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly), I'd have to say Vixie. I'm submissive (which surprises people, apparently), not a big fan of guys in general, and would love to have a woman to just cling to. Unfortunately, it turns out girls prefer people that actually DO things...
Me: Would you say that making Kiria has been enjoyable?
Foxby: Yep! Definitely. I love having my own little world to tinker around with and my own voices to talk to. Wait, that didn't come out right...
Me: Anything big in store for your work?
Foxby: I've been trying to work up the motivation to further Ari's story and give Verig, her dad, a bit more "screentime." I've also been meaning to kill off Lance, which I need to do before I finish Ari's story. Or I can skip it, which I probably will, considering Lance's story requires a bit of something from another member of dA who's been getting less happy about his own work. Also, I've been meaning to make a board based on Kiria; the problem here is lack of interest. So far, I have two people besides myself interested, but I'd like a little more before I commit to something.
Me: Alright! Thank you for taking the time to share all this. Any last words for the readers out there?
Foxby: Are you sure you have any? Er, I mean, no, I don't... now, where were those puppies? You said there were puppies back here.
Me: ...right. Well, thank you again! Foxby, everybody!
